Let's embark on this journey together!

Q: What is tactile art?

A: Tactile art is a unique artistic style centered around the sense of touch. Unlike traditional art forms that primarily rely on visual cues, tactile art communicates narratives and emotions through textures and shapes, inviting the viewer to experience art in a more sensory-rich manner.

Q: How is tactile art different from traditional art?

A: Tiger Tactile represents a novel approach to art, distinct from traditional forms in its fusion of drawing, sculpting, and etching techniques. Using metal sheets as the canvas, intricate lines and textures are meticulously etched, resulting in raised shapes that invite tactile exploration. Some pieces even achieve a remarkable '3D' effect, akin to traditional carvings, yet uniquely preserving the original material without any removal.

Q: Who creates the artworks featured on TigerTactile.com?

A: Unless otherwise specified, all Tiger Tactiles are designed, conceptualized, and hand-crafted by me (Johnny Tiger).

Q: Can tactile art be appreciated by individuals with visual impairments?

A: Tiger Tactile is designed to be appreciated by both sighted and visually impaired individuals, with a focus on tactile exploration rather than visual observation alone. Our pieces are inherently tactile, featuring raised textures and shapes. Additionally, when ordered with a customized frame, each piece is accompanied by a hand-crafted frame adorned with tactile elements such as seashells, gemstones, and crystals, enriching the sensory experience for all.

Q: Are the artworks on TigerTactile.com suitable for display in public spaces?

A: While many artworks on TigerTactile.com are suitable for display in public spaces, it's essential to consider the subject matter of each piece. Some may depict graphic or sensitive themes. We encourage individuals to use their discretion when selecting pieces for public display. However, the majority of our collection is appropriate for various settings. Explore our gallery to discover a wide range of artworks suitable for public viewing.

Q: Do you offer custom tactile art commissions?

A: Yes, we do! If you have a specific theme or subject in mind for a custom tactile art piece, feel free to reach out to us via email. We love taking on new challenges and fulfilling unique requests. Many of the pieces featured in our gallery were born from special commissions. However, please keep in mind that as a blind artist, there may be limitations, especially if the subject requires visual reference. For example, if you request a depiction of the Great Wall of China, since I haven't seen it myself, the interpretation may differ from your expectations.

Q: How are the tactile artworks shipped and packaged?

A: Each piece is meticulously packaged and bubble-wrapped to ensure its safety during shipping. Our dedicated team takes great care to protect both the artwork and its frame. While some of our more intricate pieces with decorated frames may experience minor shedding of seashells or stones during transit, rest assured that this does not affect the integrity of the artwork itself.

Q: What materials are used to create tactile art?

A: Tiger Tactile employs a unique process to craft its artworks, primarily utilizing metal sheets like aluminum or copper as the canvas. The artist meticulously etches raised lines and textures onto these surfaces using specialized hand tools. Once completed, the pieces are elegantly framed for preservation and display. Customers have the option to choose conventional frames or specially crafted open-faced frames that invite tactile exploration. These frames, crafted from wood, are often embellished with exquisite details like gemstones and seashells, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the artwork they encase.

Q: Are there any care instructions for maintaining tactile artworks?

A: Preserving the integrity of your tactile artwork is paramount. Avoid folding or creasing the piece, as this can distort or erase the intricate lines etched onto the metal surface. Additionally, ensure the artwork remains dry and avoid placing heavy objects on top of it to prevent damage. While the etched metal sheets are durable, exercise caution when handling them outside of their frames, as their sharp edges can cause injury. With proper care, these artworks will maintain their crisp lines and withstand the tactile exploration they invite.

Q: Do you offer international shipping?

A: Yes. Keep in mind that shipping can be expensive to certain locations and for some large frames, so it is a good idea to contact us to inquire about shipping prior to placing an order so we can give you a shipping quote ahead of time. For customers wishing to save on shipping cost, you can also order the artworks without frames, and frame them yourself afterward.

Q: How can I contact TigerTactile.com for further inquiries?

Tiger Tactile can be reached via email, call, or text. Please keep in mind if you are a customer outside of Canada, email is probably your best option to avoid call/text charges.

Q: Can tactile art be incorporated into educational programs or sensory experiences?

A: Absolutely! Tiger Tactile embraces the educational potential of tactile art. We've hosted successful tactile art workshops and exhibitions, including one in Port Coquitlam, BC, where our pieces were featured during elementary school field trips. Tactile art not only introduces students to a novel form of expression but also promotes inclusion and sensory exploration. It encourages creative thinking beyond traditional art forms and fosters awareness of visually impaired individuals in our communities.

Q: Are there any discounts or promotions available for purchasing artworks from TigerTactile.com?

A: If you are thinking of purchasing multiple pieces, we can combine shipping and possibly give a discount on the final sum. Just ask about that when you reach out to us :)

Q: How long does it take to receive my order once it's been placed?

A: Typically, if you place the order at the beginning of the week, assuming you did not request a frame to be included, it can ship out by the end of the week. How long shipping may take is depending on your location, but customers usually receive their Tiger Tactile in 1 to 3 weeks. If you chose the "framed" option, it may take a couple of weeks before the artwork can be shipped, especially if you decide to go with a customized frame.

Q: Are there any restrictions on the types of images or subjects that can be commissioned for custom artwork?

A: While we strive to accommodate a wide range of creative visions, it's important to consider the nature of tactile art, which primarily relies on textures and shapes rather than colors. While subjects like 'Eagle in Flight' are entirely feasible, more complex scenes that heavily rely on color, such as 'Amazing Canadian Sunset,' may pose challenges in tactile representation. However, we're always open to discussing ideas and finding creative solutions to bring your vision to life within the tactile medium.
